How To Build a Sunroom To Be Proud Of...

I remember when my husband Rick and I bought our first house.  It was barely 3 months after we got married and it was in our favorite part of town, just off the waterfront.  We met in this small beachfront town approximately 2 years early and knew we would settle there.  After the initial excitement of our house purchase I new something was missing with the overall floorplan.  And that, my friends, was a sunroom.  So here we had this beautiful old house overlooking the ocean yet there wasn't one room that you could sit in and just look out over the water.  I mean, there were windows of course, but nothing that gave you a feeling like a sunroom would.  So that is when I started my journey of taking on this small little project of learning how to build a sunroom

I considered myself to be fairly resourceful and a hands on type of woman, so took it upon myself to see if there were any relatively basic plans that I could sink my teeth into.  You may be wondering what Rob was thinking about all of this....ha.  Well, he thought it was cute...that his new wife was going to build them a sunroom.  Being away on business the majority of the time he hardly had time to help with this project, which I knew, and a big part of me wanted to do it all by myself, so I just trundled along finding any and all information on could on Do it Yourself projects....I mean, how hard could it be?

Well after visiting all the local hardware stores and asking a lot of questions....decided I needed to get myself some plans and a DIY guide.  Upon further research, found a few online.  Most of them were geared towards more advanced builders so were obviously incredibly intimidating to me.  Finally I came across one that looked really promising.  Funnily enough I was talking to my neighbor about what I found, as he had come to hear about my little obssession, and he said he had heard of their guides, all good things. They are a company that specializes in DIY guides and had tonnes of them.  I think there was about 15 different how to build a sunroom guides in total, so I felt like surely there had to be one in there I would love.

Sure enough I found the perfect How To Build a Sunroom plan!  Oh my goodness, I was over the moon.  I was so excited to get started.  And I am here to tell you that with a little hard work it was completely doable.  Oh I am sure you know I had some helping hands come over and hang out and help in exchange for some beers or wine sometimes even dinner....but the whole construction project went really well.

I made some investments in some tools and whatever I couldn't afford to buy I borrowed from neghbors and whatever I didn't know exactly how to use I got someone to come over and train me on.  I was a determined woman!  So, I believe in the end it took about 4 1/2 months in total....I mean...this is coming from someone who had a little experience of building benches and desks and the odd birdhouse...and I was taking my time.  So if you are more experienced than me, which I am sure you are, it shouldn't take more than 2 months max.

So the plan I ended up using was through this site....And comes highly recommended.  It has up to about 15, 000 different project plans, simple things all the way up to multi level decks.  Maybe in a few years I will try that!  But for now I am trying to make my sons bunk beds.....there is a plan in here for that also!  So I wish you luck on your endeavour!  Hey...if a 34 year old woman with twin toddlers can find time to do it....so you can you!
